Research Specialist/Senior Research Specialist

This Research Specialist position requires a self-motivated individual with previous research experience in mammalian cell biology who can contribute to our ongoing efforts to generate various differentiated human cell types from human induced pluripotent stem cells.

Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Mammalian cell culture including iPS cell culture and differentiated cell culture
  • Derivation and differentiation of stem cells
  • Cell culture medium production and optimization
  • Cryopreservation of stem cells and mammalian cells
  • Quantitative cell biology analyses, including immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry.
  • Quantitative molecular and protein biology analyses, including gene and protein expression
  • Assay development including, but not restricted to: flow cytometry, gene expression, protein detection, high throughput microscopy
  • Planning and execution of experiments
  • Application of good documentation practices when recording data and completing records
  • Effective execution of experimental plan and presentation of experimental data

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of biology is required; a master’s degree is desirable.
  • Knowledge of general developmental biology principles is desirable.
  • Demonstrated track record in sterile mammalian cell culture.  Experience with stem cell culture is desirable.
  • Possess initiative, ability to multi-task and a desire to acquire new technical skills.
  • Experience operating in a team-based multidisciplinary environment is desirable.
  • Excellent record keeping and organizational skills is required.
  • Flexible work schedule, weekend work is required.
  • Proficiency in the use of software such as MS Office, Prism, and various flow cytometry programs is essential.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work in laboratory hood for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work with hazardous materials (i.e. chemicals, electrical equipment, virus, and human tissue) without endangering oneself or others.
  • Able to work at computer for extended periods of time.
  • Able to wear standard laboratory PPE.
  • Able to occasionally lift 50 pounds.
